We are excited to share important updates regarding our School Meal Program (SMP) for the 2024/2025 school year. We are pleased to announce that Nourish Cowichan has partnered with Pacific Rim School District (SD70) to extend their services by providing our School Meal Program (SMP). Nourish operates with the belief that when a community comes together with love and compassion, incredible things can happen. They ensure that every child has the same opportunities to learn and thrive by providing nutritious meals; therefore, supporting academic success. We are grateful that Nourish has agreed to share their wealth of knowledge with the schools and communities within Pacific Rim School District (SD70). What is the School Meal Program (SMP)? The SMP ensures students receive a nutritious lunch and snack each school day. The program will start on September 16th, 2024, and continue throughout the school year. 

Who pays for the School Meal Program? The School Meal Program is funded by: 1. The Ministry of Education, through various food funding initiatives. 2. Donations made to Nourish. What kind of foods will be served by the School Meal Program? Pacific Rim School District and Nourish place value on providing meals to students that are safe, accessible, appropriate, nourishing and delicious. We know that students and families may be curious about what foods are being offered. We are excited to announce that Nourish will be hosting information sessions and events throughout the school year. Event details, including dates and times will be announced soon – please watch for more information to come! How do I enroll my student(s) and contribute to the School Meal Program? Our School Meal Program operates on the principle that everyone is welcome, and nobody will be turned away, even if they can’t contribute. Enrollment helps us plan and order food effectively. 1. Complete the form at the bottom of this letter, and return it to your school. This opts your student(s) into the program for the entire school year. If you decide the School Meal Program is not for you and you would like to opt OUT of the program, please notify your school secretary immediately. 2. Contributions made to Nourish are kept within Pacific Rim School District 70, and this money is used to feed students in our district. The suggested monthly participation fee is $100 per month per student. We appreciate any contributions you can make. To donate, visit www.nourishcowichan.ca/donate

 How Can You Help? The support of our community is crucial to the success of Nourish and our School Meal Program. Here are a few ways you can get involved: • Volunteer: Find out what’s needed to volunteer your time to help with meal preparation or distribution. • Spread the Word: Help raise awareness about Nourish and their mission; encourage others to get involved. • Donate: Financial contributions made to Nourish are always appreciated. Every $1,000 donated feeds a student for the entire school year. Tax receipts are available for donations.
