Chris Washington was born and raised in the Alberni Valley and graduated from ADSS. She is married to Dan Washington and between them they have four children, three of which graduated from ADSS. At 22 Chris went out into the world as a legal secretary and tried her hand at living in the big city of Vancouver. Although she enjoyed the food and cultural activities, she was destined to return home to where she was born.
Chris has assisted in running several businesses in the Valley, including CJAV, Uniglobe Travel and McDonald’s restaurants. Today, with her husband Dan, she is the proud owner of Flandangles Kitchen and Gifts and Gibson’s Fine Linens.
In the early 2000’s Chris represented the Alberni Valley on the Board of North Island College and sat as Chair for 3 ½ years. This was what created her passion for being involved in education.
Although not a fan of current labels, Chris strives for inclusive quality education for all students. She abhors racism and bullying and is working hard to erase these from our education system.
Her greatest belief is that we need to teach our students critical thinking so that they are not making life decisions based on inadequate or incorrect information. She strives to create a voice for not just educated students, but good community citizens.
